Hi Friends,
In case you missed our special “generosity opportunity” on Sunday morning, here’s a re-cap:
As most of you know, it’s part of our mission to be a “generous” church. What does that mean exactly? Paul explains it pretty well in Philippians chapter 2:
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
In other words, because God is so generous to us in our salvation, now we’re free to reflect his generosity by being generous with each other! As thanksgiving approaches, we have a wonderful opportunity to be generous as a church – to think of others as more important than ourselves. There’s a church in Africa that needs our help.

Bwerenga Bible Church
Bwerenga Bible Church, located just outside of Kampala, Uganda and pastored by ours and Sixty Feet’s friend and partner Earnest Majenge and his wife “Mama” Katherine, was about to lose their church building and land a few months ago. Last year they had been kicked out of their original building for taking in child orphans (the landlord didn’t want the “riff-raff” around!). So they moved to a new location, but then their new landlord found a buyer for the land they were renting but gave them first right of refusal. To make a long story slightly less long, they needed $20,000 to buy the land and facilities or they would be a “homeless” church again. We didn’t want to see this happen, since Bwerenga Bible Church was having such a huge gospel impact in their community. So VCV and Sixty Feet decided to take action. We went to the board and got approval for a substantial ($10,000) un-budgeted expenditure (as did Sixty Feet) and bought the land for the church. Homeless no more – and I love that they own their own church before we do!
The idea was to make this our holiday “giving” opportunity, but time was of the essence and we had to take action in September. That’s where you come in! Would you prayerfully consider helping us make-up this “generosity expense” by making a special offering during the holiday season, above and beyond your usual giving to the church? If God leads you to give (and remember, our giving philosophy is “freely, joyfully and without compulsion”) you can make checks out to Village Church at Vinings, write “mission” in the memo line, and drop it in the offering basket on a Sunday morning or mail it to:
